Prior to detailed trail planning, consider the proposal in the context of the park Master Plan:

• Does the trail fit Management Plan objectives?
  
  
• Does the trail fit Annual Management Plan objectives? What impact will the trail have park capital development and maintenance resources?
  
  
• If there is no formal plan, does the trail proposal fit interim conservation and use objectives for the park?
  
  
• Does the trail fit in a regional context? What other trails offer similar recreation objectives? What gaps are there in the provision of trails in the region?
  
  
• Select trail types by park management zone. Match trail classes to the current management zones: Intensive Recreation, Natural Environment, Wilderness, Special Feature.
  
  
• Meet park conservation objectives.
  
  
• Meet park visitor services objectives. Does the trail help provide interpretation opportunities?
