Public Safety

Reduce route
hazards during the trail route flagging stage.

Avoid avalanche
zones, hazardous trees and snags, undercut streambanks.

Avoid cliffs
and embankments.

Avoid seasonal
grizzly bear habitat, such as soapberry, equisetum communities, fish spawning
areas. Ensure unobstructed vision where the trail passes through bear habitat
and avoid noisy creeks near where possible.

Avoid dangerous
creek or river fords.

Design trail
and trail/road intersections for right-angle crossings as these are safest
and they minimize the user's exposure to the road or railway.
