| 6.0 Related Trail Facilities
Refer to other manual sections for detailed information on related trail
facilities. During trail planning and design, consider:
-
parking
-
toilets
-
bear resistant waste containers
-
water supply
-
self-registration kiosks
-
picnic shelters
-
warm-up huts
-
accommodation huts

campsites
-
bear resistant food storage

-
Match the facility design to the type of recreation setting or park management
zone.
-
In wilderness areas, use the least intrusive design approach. In high use
area , design facilities to a high standard consistent with the amount
and type of use.
-
Avoid developing trail facilities that are inconsistent with the intent
of the park management zone. For example, the park management zone should
provide guidance on whether trail shelters or campsites are appropriate.
-
Design trail facilities and use building materials that are resistant to
damage by wildlife (eg. porcupines or bears).
-
Consider seasonal use of trail facilities, for example winter and summer
use of trail huts.
-
Consider maintenance requirements of trail facilities, for example wood
supply and storage at warming huts.
