The center span was going to be somewhat more of a challenge, since it was entirely off of the piers. It was also the middle section, so we had a lot of our work to do while in or over the water. The log in the foreground was a piece of flood-delivered junk, but provided a reasonably handy walkway across the amazingly deep channel. The “bull” rope, which had originally moored one of the bridge sections, was pressed into service as a hand rail until the bridge was back. (photo by Bill Taggart)
