Here is the final location of the platform. The 4-foot bridge spans the root system of the tree (a beautiful, strong, oak that nobody wanted to hurt). By using a single row of cubes and the bridge, we didn't have to create havoc with the tree's roots. It does result in an awkward-looking offest, but there really wasn't any other option. And, once everything is in place, it turns out it really doesn't impact the walkway.
