On Boxing Day (December 26th) 2011, eight members of the NY-NJ Trail Conference's West Jersey Crew undertook to repair and replace the Appalachian Trail bridge over the old alignment of Wawayanda Creek. Hurricane Irene and her sister storm Lee had generated huge amounts of flooding in the area, and had caused all 3 sections of the bridge to float up and off of their pilings. The remaining channel was surprisingly deep and surrounded by an area of very problematic mud flats. (photo by Monica Day)
